Quilters

Quilting has been a fund raiser for Blue Church for nearly 85 years.  The ladies of Blue Church along with quilters from St. John's Locust Valley Chapel, Faith UCC and Holy Spirit have come together in fellowship to quilt.  Blue Church is always thankful for their help.  After a morning of quilting and conversing on serious as well as fun topics, ladies takes a lunch break that may include hot dogs, sauerkraut and many times dessert.  Birthday quilters usually treat  the other quilters on their birthday.  Customers sew their top and then bring it in for the ladies to quilt.  The quilters seem to always be busy.  All proceeds go to Blue Church.

The Anniversary Quilt

Two years ago, Blue Church, celebrated its 275th anniversary. The quilters started working on the Anniversary Quilt almost three years before then.  Luckily, we had an art teacher draw each picture in the quilt.  Each picture was carefully copied onto the material by way of a light box. Several women embroidered the pictures using the color blue in celebration.  All the pieces were then sewn together to form the top of the quilt and then the quilting began.  It was dedicated to the church in rememberance of the many quilters who have passed away.
